Start with the room and the product.
List the conditions that matter to you: spills, pets, direct sunlight, furniture movement and daily cleaning. Ask for the exact product specification and warranty. A category label does not tell you which exposures a particular floor allows.
Compare the full installed assembly.
A product may come with an attached pad, require a separate underlayment or use a bonded method. The chosen flooring instructions determine what can go underneath it. An extra layer is not automatically an improvement, especially where the assembly must be reviewed by a strata.
Look at both appearance and practical details.
Bring samples into your home and view them alongside the walls, cabinetry and existing surfaces. Check matching trims and nosings before ordering. A sample board can look very different from a whole room with repeated planks and daylight.
Compare complete quotes.
Our current starting installation labour is the same for standard vinyl and laminate, but a particular project can still have different preparation and material costs. Include removal, subfloor work and perimeter finishing in the comparison.
- Confirm the exact installation method
- Check room suitability and cleaning limits
- Review transitions, stairs and matching parts
- Ask for a written scope for each option
Use a project as a reference, not a specification.
Our Richmond vinyl project and Langley laminate work show different finishes in actual homes. Their scopes help explain what installation involves; your own product and substrate still need to be assessed.
