Laminate installation in Downtown Vancouver
Project reference: Laminate · Downtown Vancouver

Get the current building requirements.

BC’s strata guidance explains that bylaws can differ between strata corporations and may require written permission for a flooring change. Request the current requirements from your strata or property manager before purchasing materials.

Review the assembly, not only a marketing number.

If the building specifies acoustic performance, ask what documentation it accepts and which tested floor-and-ceiling assembly the rating describes. The flooring, underlayment and building structure should not be collapsed into a generic claim about a pad.

Confirm the approval in writing.

Prepare the product information requested by your building and obtain any required approval before scheduling work. If a requirement is unclear, ask the strata to clarify it; an installer’s general description is not a replacement for the building’s decision.

Plan access and work arrangements.

Ask about elevator bookings, floor protection, loading, work times and waste removal. These practical details can affect the sequence and quote even where the installation product has already been accepted.

Bring a clear checklist.

Our Downtown condo project is a useful example of acoustic underlayment and fitted perimeter work. Your building still needs its own plan.

  • Current flooring and renovation bylaws
  • Proposed flooring and underlayment documents
  • Any required written approval
  • Access, protection and working arrangements
  • A scope identifying preparation and finishing
